All of a sudden on Dec 15th I started seeing some really crazy events showing up on my Google Calendar: All I could think was that one of two things had to be going on: Some calendar software I am using had a “funny” developer Someone was messing with me I disregarded the first couple events, but here it is February and this stuff is still showing up on my calendar. Now, this would not be too much of a worry except that it was showing up on my work calendar and my boss started asking questions. There was an event that was nothing but the word “Fuck”, I quickly deleted it upon my boss discovering it. Then my brain-switch… » Read More

Rant Status = Extreme Likelihood to Offend = 93% This morning I was watching the Today Show’s coverage of the window shade recall. I was instantly appalled, frustrated, and infuriated at the same time. I still cannot believe that this was allowed to happen. Basically, the whole story boils down to little kids getting the string wrapped around their necks and dieing. This in itself is horrible, I never want to hear about another accidental child death again. The thing that bothers me about the fact that a recall was put into effect is that ALL of these deaths could have been avoided if the parents would have been paying attention. Why are child services organizations around the country not… » Read More

Recently, I have noticed a bit of ingenuity on the part of spam bots that are hitting my blog sites. They have been posting jokes, one-liners actually, to my comments. They also have links to viagra and cialis so I do not approve them. Here are a couple examples: Did you hear about the dyslexic rabbi? He was walking around everywhere saying, “Yo!” How do you circumcise a whale? Send down fore-skin divers. What do you call bedtime stories for boats? Ferry tales. What kind of flowers grow in outer space? Sunflowers. Why wouldn’t the dishwasher’s gloves fit? Because he had Dishpan Hands! What happens when a ghost haunts a theater? The actors get stage fright. Why do bagpipers walk… » Read More

I took the day off today so I could catch up on some things, go to the allergist, and go to a concert tonight. This gave me the opportunity to sit in rooms with large numbers of people I don’t know. Meaning, I worked at Panera and then the public library because Panera’s wifi stopped working for me. I took lunch and went to a new-to-me restaurant called “Tuk Tuk Thai“. Their green curry is AWESOME by the way. If you have been to Tuk Tuk, you know that the seating there can be a little tightly spaced. This led me to sitting in between a couple and two guys who seemed to work together. Right about the time I… » Read More

When you have pop-ups blocked for a domain and then I allow them. DO NOT refresh my browser. In the age of AJAX, this can cause SERIOUS problems. And it is fucking annoying. You should at the very least ASK me if I WANT to refresh the page. Most websites that I have seen recently that have pop-ups have more than 1 way to get that pop up to happen. In fact, if I click a button or check box or something then you should probably just go ahead and allow the damn thing to pop up because it is probably my fault it’s coming up anyways. Anyone who tells me to turn off pop-up blocker can go stuff yourself,… » Read More

I was working on a site and noticed something that concerned me. This is fodder for TheDailyWTF and makes me worry for the fate of any person who receives the results of forms with [non-]“validation” like this. The form element: <select name="favorite-color"> <option>Favorite Color – Choose One</option> <option value="blue">Blue</option> <option value="red">Red</option> <option value="orange">Orange</option> <option value="green">Green</option> <option value="black">Black</option> </select> Here is what was in the processing script: switch ($_POST["favorite-color"]) { case "blue": case "red": case "orange": case "green": case "black": $data["favorite-color"] = $_POST["favorite-color"]; break; } … //data is appended to a string – matt's comment not a "real" comment in the script $string .= $data['favorite-color']; So… What is wrong with this? OMG what isn’t wrong with it? The select… » Read More

Matt Bernier, who is writing this article, is completely utterly D.E.A.D. He died in a horrific manner before he wrote this article. Anyone who reads this should tell everyone that I am dead, because why not, right!? Hey, at least I was the first to release the news that I am dead. Beat that TMZ, you couldn’t even report my death faster than me. Suck on it! —– Seriously guys, substantiate your shit before you start vomiting it all over the place. Yeah it may be true, but seriously if only ONE place is putting it out there, and no one else is confirming, you might decide to wait a minute to make sure it is true.
