I was recently chatting with a friend about how some very topically slanted groups have been advertising on one of his favorite websites which actually leans the opposite way as the advertisements. I realized something very interesting, we talked about it, and I figured I would share it here. First, a little background on how Google Ads work. Whenever an advertisement is clicked, the site that provides the link gets paid a small amount of money and the person who posted the advertisement is charged some amount of money. Also, most people who post advertisements set a specific daily budget for their ads because otherwise it is possible that through Google that advertisement could be seen by millions of people… » Read More

According to FTC rules, I have to disclose that I was given this product by Ergotron for the purpose of doing a product review. When I was at CES in January I noticed a booth from a company called Ergotron, who I had never heard of (this is actually not true, as you will find out), so I jumped into the booth and started looking around. Immediately, my eyes were drawn to a poster talking about the possibility of winning an Ergotron product for tweeting a picture of myself in their booth. The result: A couple weeks later, I was contacted by Ergotron announcing that I had won! They gave an email detailing the items that I could choose from…. » Read More

This past weekend I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to go to CES, and to go with my wife and family as well. We all had passes and were able to amble about the convention halls together grabbing up free stuff and selling our various wares. Needless to say it was a ton of fun. I do not have the tallies all in yet, but my estimate is that we raised just about $1500 for The Prostate Cancer Foundation and The Lance Armstrong Foundation at the party! Thank you to all the people who came to the party, who brought donations both monetary and for the raffle, who helped me keep things running smoothly, and who had a great time. As I get more pictures and information I will post them both here on my blog and through Twitter so that everyone can get a glimpse of the great fun we had. If you know who all won prizes at the event, I would really appreciate you sharing this information with me so I can… » Read More

Today is a day for thought, which should explain why I took my pic the way I did today. I am thinking about the event I want to hold on Dec 4th, and where to have it. I have an idea I am going to investigate today, but who knows really. If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it. If you want tickets to the event, even though we don’t know where it will be yet, go to the Metal Mustaches Event Brite page. I have made 50 tickets available, but more may become available later in the month. Last night I got the hook up from AMC theaters for some movie posters to give away. The ones I… » Read More

Tony and I often chat on IM, email, phone, and now Twitter. Usually, we are joking around or talking about some crazy idea we have. Every once in a while we will chat about more serious topics. This is a good example of one of those times. Tony Kimberly: Can I ask you a weird question? Matt Bernier: sure Tony Kimberly: What’s important to you? Matt Bernier: What do you mean by that? Tony Kimberly: Uhh, in the long run, in life. What’s important to you. Tony Kimberly: I’ve been doing a lot of soul searching and deciding what I want out of life and what I want to do/accomplish Matt Bernier: To be happy, around the people I love,… » Read More

America the beautiful. America is a safe-haven. America is a melting pot. America is teeming with opportunity. America is full of assholes. I am so worn out every single day by the stereotypical American rearing his/her head. It is tough for me to even want to talk about the fact that I am lumped in with people who are so purposefully rude, entitled, and awful. I am going to ask this very cliche question, “What happened to us?”. At what point did we decide that we were not only better than everyone else, but that they were not even really worth the dirt we scrape off our shoes? Why are we so rude? Why are we so damned self-centered? I… » Read More

I had a job right out of high school where I would drive around with a guy, pick a neighborhood, and knock on every door that we thought would be answered. The goal wasn’t bible sales; it was to sell steak, or move meat if you will. We basically swindeled people into buying our “high quality” meat at “rock bottom prices”. Now that I am looking back at it, I have earned the right to drop quotation marks around those words because our meat was neither high quality or sold at rock bottom prices. It was cheap meat that was flash frozen and put into flimsy cardboard boxes, delivered to us and tossed in a giant walk in freezer, then… » Read More
